American Tailfin Era, Art, Fashion, Inspired by automobiles, Photos, Prada, Prada Fire Heels, Prada Miuccia, Prada Spring Summer 2012
For Prada’s Spring/Summer 2012 collection, Miuccia designed a collection of shoes inspired by the American Tailfin era (the gloden era of autmobile design). Colours are bold cadillac red and racing green. Flames burst from the back of the shoes as they would from an exhaust pipe. Detailing on the shoes comes from the highly polished chrome metal work, or the shapes of the cars’ tailfins.
Personally I do not like them. I would never in a million years wear these shoes and for a starter, I have no idea HOW I would wear them. With dresses? Jeans? Shorts? No clue. What do you think?

I wouldn’t wear them either, but I think they’re interesting and beautiful in their own way, sort I like those Alexander McQueen Lobster Claw shoes.
I think they’re so hot…just because they’re different. But yeah, couldn’t wear them..lol.
Not for me 😉
They do look nice and fancy, & I could say that they could be used ONLY to put up a show, like on a runway, music videos, photoshoot…etc. But not a fashion item that a girl would wear for everyday or even a special occasion. I agree with ya
so much ❤
Now I know exactly 2 things about fashion and that is: Jack and Shit. I would as a guy, be afraid of a woman coming toward me wearing these shoes
While I wouldn’t wear them, I do appreciate the artistic element of these shoes. And being American, I have often seen vintage cars with the flame paint jobs… a fun inspiration for sure.
Perhaps something with wings. A tooth-fairy or superhero costume?
I think the only ones I would maybe dare wear are the pink ones. A black dress could be?
Guro,
As I was reading, I was afraid you would say that you would wear these. They look more like novelties that should be in an auto museum or in a theatrical presentation of the “Slaying of Medusa”. Talking about shoes, I’d like to hear what you think about the Louboutin/YSL battle over color. I wrote a post about it on my blog sometime ago, but from a competitive perspective.
Thanks for your perspective.
Wow you could do some serious damage with those flames! It’s interesting for the catwalk, but really wearable? Not really.
umm….no
I actually LOVE them. They are such a statement all in itself! Maybe with tight skinny’s and a tank top! I have a lot of female musician friends who wear funky shoes when they perform and can totally see them rockin them as well. Funkalicious!
As I male, all I can say is that the shoes look kind of cool, but they look more harmful to the human foot than is offset by additional attractiveness. I suppose for a couple hours in a day, though, they might be fun. Best!
I LOVE these! How do you wear them? With attitude.
Absolutely!! *high five*
oooh I would wear them, with a little black dress!
When I looked at those shoes I could imagine all the twisted and broken ankles that will result if women actually try to wear those things! I definitely would not wear them…ever! Thanks for showing them to us, though. 🙂
These shoes are so darn flame-tastic :). I wouldn’t wear these, but they are a great art display for conversation. Thanks for sharing these
I think I could wear them…but only with a short dress. A long dress or pants would be ripped to hell and back! And then I would get mad and then never wear them again. Damn cycle!
At first I could only imagine an animated superhero or maybe that gold FTD florist man. I wish I could remove the flames off of the heels because those in particular seem too much (for me), and somewhat commercial, like Firestone tires. A bit satanic in red. But, I kind of like the light pink ones at the top left, the subtlest ones. I can imagine them with a very diaphanous flowing dress, or straight black tight jeans. Not that I could actually wear or walk in them…

Saw these in Vogue and have to say they caught my attention. But how would you drive? More to the point, how would you walk and cross your lets when seated?
I agree with you, do not like! They’re quite pretty to look at and appreciable as pieces of art, but not for wearing – think of the damage you’d cause?!
Certainly attention getting. If my feet were my best feature and I could do stillettos, I’d consider it, just for the fun factor.
With a cape and your underpants over your tights?
Holy High Heels batman!
I actually really like them, I could see myself wearing them or better yet put them on the mantle to look at 🙂 because i’d probably only wear them once.

What a funny coincidence! I had taken this pic from Vogue last night!! I was going to say they’re my new “driving shoes”. (;^)
Reblogged this on Maylana's Closet and commented:
Posted by fellow blogger Guro Stuan, I kind of like them. They actually remind me of cartoons! What do you think?
Great for mowing the lawn.
I think these are ridiculous as shoes, but tremendous fun as sculpture. But then, I object to wearing any shoes that don’t *feel* great on and for real walking, whether they’ve got high heels or not. I own some that are pretty good looking, have high heels *and* are good for walking, so I know it’s possible!
From the moment I saw these on the SS12 catwalk I adored them. Such creativity from Prada – and unusual theme too! So cool.
I would like them on Grace Jones.
I’m a fiend for funky shoes and would totally wear these. Only on special occasions though- like a cross dresser competition amongst those who would really appreciate them. These are fab! Great post title! Thanks for sharing!
I would maybe wear them if I wanted to appear to be walking verrrry fast! haha….I saw the pics from the runway show though and I thought they were verrry cool with the looks!
Oh wow! These would make for great wardrobe items for the character Katniss Everdeen in THE HUNGER GAMES. The way she and Peeta entered the arena (in flames) these shoes would have been FASHIONABLY APPROPRIATE. These shoes also give new meaning to the term”hot girl” and scream “foot soak at the end of the day”. Ow! (-:
Hmm, I agree. I don’t think I’d wear these kinds of shoes. But I’m pretty boring when it comes to shoes – all of mine are black and simple! PS – I awarded you the Versatile Blogger Award! Details are on my blog 🙂 xx
Those are definitely the most horrific looking shoes I have ever seen! The are terrible! And I feel like I would have to wear a Lady Gaga outfit to look good in them.
I really liked the first pair of shoes, a pretty pink color.
i would only rock the one in the upper right. it’s the kinda shoe, where at first glance you may not notice how dope it is!
Interesting but not for me. 🙂
When do men get flashy shoes with wicked designs, awesome!!!
I like them, they definitely make a bold statement…..I think that they could be worn at a themed event eg: a costume party, runway show, fashion show etc….
The pink could definitely be worn with a little black dress if you would like to make a fashion statement, or even with some basic jeans and a tank or blazer, those shoes would brighten up any outfit. However, you have to be daring enough to wear it….lol…I love making bold statements so I would wear it…:)
well gotta give the designer props for being gutsy and breaking all the rules! 😀 that’s how I am with my artwork…, love to break the rules lol 😀 of course no everyone will understand your end result tho lol 😀
now, while I agree with ya – what the heck would one wear them with?? lol I like looking at them lol they do have a style all their own even if inspired by an era long gone… 😀
That’s an astute answer to a tricky qesution
I wouldn’t wear them either!
However, I do agree with many others that they have an interesting design..
They’re built to be the exclusive star of the outfit, so they would have to be worn with a simple dress, mini skirt or shorts.
These are not meant to be covered by trousers!
The golden age of automobiles was all about excess and these shoes are a true reflection of that. Still, there was a reason consumers and automakers moved on from that style, because it wasn’t practical and these shoes are a little too avant- garde for anyone to wear except maybe Madonna? -Nadya
Those hot shoes. They appear harmful. I would pair them with a Urban FLRT t-shirt with some blue jeans. Summer Hotness all the way.
I would definitely not wear them but I think they look great in magazines !
These looks so much fun! I’d be tempted if going to some sort of event that encouraged creativity etc They’d certainly get stares wherever you wore them!
These shoes are definitely designer shoes – eye-catching and unique, but not very practical, just as you say. I don’t suppose they would have a large pool of potential buyers, either; then again, that’s probably not the point. It’s art and beautiful, that way. (‘Course, I don’t know what I’d do with them if I had them.)
I’d love to have one as a decorative piece in my house! Fancy shmancy 🙂

I often wonder how practical stuff like that is and then I realize it’s not practical at all. It’s for show. Interesting.
I would never wear them in my wildest dreams, but maybe play up the grease thing with a leather jacket, sparkly top, and some leggings. I feel like a short dress would not help them.
I really liked those shoes until I realized they were inspired by cars. Now all I can see is cars, cars, cars! I guess they would look cool on an artist or funky looking chick 😉
