Good morning everyone! Yesterday I went to Singin’ in the rain the Musical at the Palace Theatre in London. This is a lovely and funny musical filled with happy songs and great dancing! I especially loved this dancing sequence…
I would advice you to get front row seats, because they will splash water on you during the show! For those of you who love romance (I know we all do!) there is also love…
{Adam Cooper as Don Lockwood & Scarlett Strallen as Kathy Selden}
And much much more! So pack your bags and head to London! For those of you who don’t know the storyline, here’s a short summary…..
Don Lockwood is a popular silent film star who can barely tolerate his shallow leading lady Lina Lamont. Despite this, their studio Monumental Pictures, links them romantically to increase their popularity. Lina herself is convinced they are in love!
{Katherine Kingsley as Lina Lamont}
One evening Don meets Kathy Selden who claims to be a stage actress and sneers at undignified accomplishments. She pretends to not know who he is, but later in the musical, she admits that she has known who he is all along. Later, at a party, Selden is at the stage as one of amusement dancers and is very embarrased when she sees Don. Furious at Don’s teasing she throws a cake at him and runs away! After weeks of searching Don finally finds her again and they begin to fall in love. Monumental studios then decides to make talking pictures, however, Lina Lamont has such a horrible voice it needs be replaced by someone. That someone will later become Kathy Selden. I don’t want to reveal everything, but obviously this leads to drama with a very happy ending! Have a good day everybody!

Rain? It rains one day a year in Dubai and I miss ‘weather’ so much!!! I miss cold and wet winter days, locked indoors in front of the TV, watching the great Hollywood musicals like: Singing in the Rain.
I wish I could write here in green ink so you would understand how envious I am of your trip to the theatre last night 🙂

Have you ever seen the version with Gene Kelly?
Guro Stuan said:
No. I haven’t. That’s the film isn’t it? I really should! X

It is. It was done years ago in Black and White. It may have been remastered, but I really like the black and white.

Can’t make it to London, but it’s coming to Calgary this fall. I have been wondering if the stage show could live up to the classic Gene Kelly/Debbie Reynolds/Donald O’Connor movie. Hope so.

My very favorite musical comedy. Would love to see it with the wife. Perhaps it will come to the most corrupt city in all the world (Washington DC) which is where I work. Have to wash every night because of all the political filth that spews forth from this place every day. Never seem anyone dance in the thick muck here before.

Singing in the rain can be found on IMDB in the orginal black and white. I saw a biography program about Debbie Reynolds. She talked about how demanding Gene Kelly was and that as the “girl” in the cast, she had to work twice as hard. Great Movie! The play sounds great.

Oooh, you went to see this the week after my husband did! He really loved it! Stupidly, I bought the tickets for it and then realised I couldn’t go, so he had to take another friend!
